Hello Mike,
Color artwork approach:
The black line work is done on paper and scanned into Photoshop and then I use a filter from these guys called GHOST to apply to the line work.

Then I create a separate layer fill it with white and place it under the line work layer.
I use whatever brush I find pleasing to use at the time, but set it at %50 opacity and build up colour from using that. That's the general approach.

My preferred traditional colour method is watercolour on top of waterproof black ink.
But that's a whole new can of worms :)
